CELL BIOLOGY AND ANATOMY JOURNAL CLUB

The Departmental Journal Club provides an opportunity for faculty, postdocs, and graduate students to discuss current research articles pertaining to cell biology and anatomy. It is held every other Wednesday, alternating with the Graduate Student Research Seminars, at noon in Room 4139 of the Rosenstiel Medical Sciences Building and all interested individuals are invited to participate.

Location: Room 4139, RMSB
Time: 12:00 noon
Date: Wednesdays

The Molecular Cell and Developmental Biology Journal Club
October 2005 - July 2006

Themes:
(1)  Embryonary and adult stem cells, differentiation and applications.  Genetics of pluripotency/totipotency
(2)  Control of tissue-specific gene expression.  Chromatin structure, histone modifications, si/miRNA in cell differentiation and commitment
(3)  Cell Biology of disease.  Mechanisms of disease that affect specific cellular processes (e.g. RNAs not properly localized, splicing/nuclear exit, autophagocitosis)
(4)  Signaling pathways for secretion.
All papers must be from journals with impact rates of 10 or higher and approved by a member of the Steering Committee.  The Presenting group must circulate the paper no later than the Friday before the Journal Club presentation.
The presentation will be by the peron at the top of the presenting group list, supported by the others in methods and discussion.  Presentations must be completed within 35 minutes including the introduction.  The debating group is encouraged to question and comment on all possible weaknesses of the paper.
