Student Backgrounds
An undergraduate background in the physical, behavioral or biological sciences is appropriate preparation. However, our students come form a wide array of disciplines, and no specific degree is a prerequisite for enrollment.

M.S.P.H. Application Deadline
Admission into the Master of Science in Public Health program is held twice annually. Applications for the Fall semester are accepted through April 1st of the year the student is applying. The Spring application deadline for the M.S.P.H. program is November 15th.

M.S.P.H. Admission Requirements
All prospective students must complete an application for admission. Applicants may begin the application process online at http://www.applyweb.com/aw?miamigr. Do not send any application materials to the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health. All application materials must be delivered to:

The applicant's COMPLETED file must contain the following information:

  1. Completed and signed application form
  2. Official transcripts of all college work
  3. A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  4. Three letters of recommendation
  5. A 400 word letter of intent
  6. A current resume or Curriculum Vitae
  7. Official report of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) taken within the last 5 years with a minimum (combined verbal and quantitative sections) recommended score of 1100. All applicants are required to submit a GRE score. Applicants with an advanced degree (an M.D.) are no longer exempt from this requirement. The MCAT is an acceptable substitute for the GRE for medical school graduates only
  8. International students, whose native language is not English, are required to submit a paper score of at least 550 or a computer score of at least 213 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) examination
  9. All M.S.P.H. students are required to have supporting evidence of computer literacy, including the ability to use Microsoft Excel or a similar program prior to beginning the M.S.P.H. program
  10. A non-refundable application fee

Each application for acceptance is examined by members of the Admissions Committee. Materials submitted in support of an application are confidential and cannot be released for other purposes nor be returned to the applicant.
