EFFECTOR SYSTEMS AND APOPTOSIS

Apoptosis, or programmed cell death, is important not only as an end result of effector system responses to foreign pathogens (as illustrated on the right), but also for elimination of excess T-cells following their activation and expansion. Research in this area includes studies on the mechanism and regulation of apoptosis, signals that activate effector systems, and mechanisms of cytotoxicity.
