The Department of Neurology at the University of Miami School of Medicine is one of the largest and most respected clinical neuroscience departments in the nation. The department is held in high regard as an international referral center. When neurologists from Latin America, Florida, and the United States are challenged by complex neurological problems, they turn to our faculty for its expertise in the many subspecialties of neurology.Our mission as a major academic center is to provide unparalleled care to patients; to train the next generation of practitioners and neuroscientists; and to expand our knowledge of the causes, treatments and cures for neurological disease.Our department is made up of research laboratories, clinical divisions, clinical laboratories, and research centers.Our ability to fulfill this mission, however, depends on the generosity of the private sector. As federal funding for research and patient care becomes increasingly scarce, our success grows ever more dependent on the support of far-sighted individuals, foundations, and corporations.
