Yousuf is currently working with Dr. Deborah Mash on identifying novel changes in gene expression in postmortem human brain associated with cocaine addiction and excited delirium. His ultimate goal is to map novel mechanistic pathways that might dictate the vulnerability of different individuals to drug-seeking behavior.

Joanne is a member of Dr. Keith Webster’s lab and is currently studying the determination of the molecular mechanisms by which BNIP3 and PKCd regulate apoptosis of prostate cancer under hypoxia-acidosis conditions.

Alexandra is training in Dr. Gennaro D’Urso’s lab and is identifying and characterizing the replication initiation defective mutants (rid) in Schizosaccharomyces pombe. In 2005, she received an AHA Predoctoral Fellowship award to continue her research project.

Julie Matthews

Julie is a graduate student in Dr. Lossos’s lab. She is currently researching STAT activation on the pathogenesis of Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma (DLBCL) including differential activation kinases and phosphatases that may be responsible and the effects that STAT activation may have on cell cycle, viability and tumor growth in both primary tumors and cell culture. Her side projects include the production of drug-resistant cell lines and analyzing the mechanism of upregulation of DNA repair proteins after transformation from follicular lymphoma to DLBCL.

Jessica is a member of the Burnstein Lab and is currently investigating the role of crosstalk between ErbB2 and ER signaling pathways as a potential mechanism of antiestrogen resistance in estrogen receptor positive breast cancer.

Andy is in Dr. Charles Luetje’s lab and is studying the imposed ligand recognition by mutation of mammalian olfactory receptors in yeast.

Adena Rosenblatt
B.S., 2003, University of Michigan

Adena is an MD/PhD student in the Burnstein lab and is currently researching the regulation of androgen receptor activity: a potential mechanism of action of arsenic trioxide treatment in prostate cancer. She recently received a NIEHS Predoctoral Fellowship from NIH to continue her research studies. 
Derek Rosenzweig

Derek is in Dr. Vlad Slepak’s lab and is currently working on molecular mechanisms of light dependant protein redistribution in photoreceptor cells. He received an AHA Predoctoral Fellowship award in 2005 to continue this project.

Salil Sharma

Salil Sharma is a graduate student in Dr. Nanette Bishopric's lab. He is currently studying the role of p300 in regulation of angiogenesis through identification of specific transcription factors in vivo.

As a student in the Webster lab, the first aim of Billy's project is to identify the nuclease responsible for the apoptotic DNA cleavage seen in cardiomyocytes during hypoxia/acidosis. The second area of focus is on the hyperacetylation of histone H3 during cardiomyocyte hypoxia/acidosis

Cherry is member of the Burnstein lab and is how Vitamin D3 inhibits cancer cell proliferation through nuclear exclusion and decreased activity of cyclin-dependent kinase 2. 
Weiwen Wang

Weiwen Wang is a graduate student in Dr. Webster’s lab. Her major aim is to study the role of BNIP3 in cardiacmyocyte apoptosis under hypoxia/acidosis. Her second project involves researching cell signaling pathways of glycolysis in cancer cell lines.  
Amber Wilson

While in the Webster lab, Amber’s project concentrates on the analysis of BNIP3 cleavage and its role in initiating cardiac myocyte death. She received an AHA Predoctoral Fellowship award to continue this research in 2005.

Ling is currently in the D’Urso lab. Her thesis project involves researching the activation of a DNA replication checkpoint pathway in fission yeast.
